Monetizing Social Media – Part 2 of 9: Taking a Step Back

Social media can offer a number of benefits for real estate agents. It can help you expand your network through positive word of mouth, promote your position in the market, and stay in touch with your past clients. Even though the benefits are many and the monetary cost to using these tools is low you still need to be cautious. You need to be careful because to use these tactics effectively you have to invest a lot of time.  Before making this investment there are a couple of things that I suggest that you consider carefully:

  1. Ask yourself why you want to get involved in social media. This will allow you to develop some goals that you can evaluate your efforts against. I would suggest you schedule a monthly review to evaluate what it is that you accomplished with social media over the last month and whether you are on track to achieving the goals that you set out.

Update Your Email Signature!!!!

How many emails a day do you send out? Each one of those communications are a great opportunity to expose your network to all the great stuff you are doing online. If you have a website/blog/social media profile you should be including those in your email signature. Here is a sample of what we created for Larry based on his various digital properties:

For those agents who create individual listing websites you should be updating your signature each time you get a new listing to include the listing url. If you also have a Facebook Fan page you could include it in your signature in the following fashion:

For those of you on a BlackBerry you will have to update your signature in two places: 1. In your outlook/email client 2. Through your data package provider’s website (Rogers, Bell…)
