Your website and blog need to be the central Hub of your social media activity. Your different social networks should act as Spokes that drive traffic to your blog or website. Your website and blog need to be geared to generate leads. Social media should help prime those leads but mainly should be geared to drive traffic to your website or blog.

It is on your website and blog that you can convey the most detailed information about yourself and the services you provide. You should position yourself as an expert through the content you post.  This content will also allow you to start to develop trust with the visitor. Only after you have reached a certain threshold of trust will the visitor feel comfortable enough with you to convert as a lead. Your website and blog also need to be easy to navigate, have multiple calls to action, a variety of info capture points, and make it easy for the visitor to contact you.

A blog and a website are necessary because they perform different functions. The best description that i have heard concerning their different roles came from Garry Vaynerchuck. Your website handles the logistics of your business and your blog conveys the essence of your brand.

So what does this mean for real estate agents? Your website should provide visitors with basic factual information about your service. Things like your background, past sales, current sales, different service offerings, contact info stuff like that. Your blog should convey who you are, you should demonstrate your real estate knowledge and expertise, your style and approach to working with clients. People should get a sense of who you are as an individual through your blog, they should feel like they are really getting to know you.

On your blog and website you can post that content in a number of ways ranging from video posts, to text, and even audio (podcasts). Choose the medium that best fits your personality.

The next post in this series will talk about Facebook and how agents can leverage it most effectively.
